Music is all about context. In a given situation the meaning of a song can be changed completely. Something seemingly light given weight. Something with weight poked fun at. I played this set of 80s pop in Bar Jam (an underground bar in Ebisu, Tokyo) expecting it to sparkle given the vintage UREI mixer and the ALTEC speakers. On the night, I was so surrounded by western faces that I felt like I was DJing at an office Christmas party - rather than recreating Shoom.....
