Title: Liquid Hydrogen, 50,000 tonnes of water and a Nuclear reactor:
A Particle Physicists’ Journey to Understand the Universe
Whilst we know that 68% of the universe is dark energy and 27% is dark matter, we have only hints as to their nature. The matter dominated universe of which we are a part makes up the remaining 5% but even here there are many outstanding questions, such as how does it come to exist in the first place?
To understand these questions particle physicists work as a global community, inventing new technologies with benefits that reach far beyond the pursuit of knowledge.
this talk gives a brief history of particle physics and describe one physicist's work in the hunt for answers.
Many thanks to the Institute of Physics, University of Sussex, for allowing us to record and share this lecture.
